| Boat Captain
The Alliance is currently seeking a Boat Captain and a Senior Boat Captain to pilot the electric boat Independence during spring, summer, and fall public visitation hours.
The Boat Captain conducts boat tours for school groups, private parties, park patrons, and provides narration to boat passengers to highlight the ecology and history of the Prospect Park water system. This position also provides routine maintenance for the electric boat.
Qualifications for the Boat Captain include possession of a valid New York State License to Operate a Public Vessel, experience interpreting nature to diverse audiences, and strong oral communication skills. The ability to work as part of a team and the ability to lift over 50 lbs are essential. The ideal candidate will possess an understanding of and demonstrate a commitment to conservation and environmental awareness, as well as wonder and appreciation for the natural world.
The Senior Boat Captain performs all of the duties of the Boat Captain as well as the following: Recruiting, training and scheduling Boat Captains; coordinating the Alliance’s relationship with the boat manufacturer as well as coordinating boat inspections and registrations with NYS Parks Department along with any repairs and supply purchases as needed; and identifying, performing, or scheduling regular maintenance of the boat. This position is also responsible for handling off season responsibilities such as transportation coordination of the boat. The Senior Boat Captain serves as the primary point of contact between the Boat Captains and Alliance staff, the boat manufacturer, and the State.
Qualifications for the Senior Boat Captain include the above as well as supervisory skills.
Salary for the Boat Captain is $20.00 an hour; the salary for the Senior Boat Captain is $23.00 an hour.
