Prospect Park’s Education Department is seeking an individual with strong planning and organizational skills who enjoys working on multiple projects, often simultaneously. The Program Coordinator will work predominantly with high school programs. Our ideal candidate is passionate about environmental issues, outdoor education and youth development. They enjoy the challenges of working with groups from different organizational settings and seeing ideas through to their realization. We seek a person who fits this profile and has work experience that demonstrates these abilities.

The Program Coordinator will be a core part of an innovative team working with BASE (Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment), a public high school partnership between the Prospect Park Alliance (PPA), Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Department of Education. The individual is responsible for coordinating programs and projects that support educational partnerships, primarily with BASE. As part of the Education Department, they will also work with the key staff on special projects.

Duties include:
• Participation in and follow-up on school planning projects; coordination with other partners;
• Collecting and managing data for all projects and for Prospect Park Alliance use;
• Development and coordination of out-of-school learning expeditions and activities. Current examples include:
     · Out-of-town overnight weekend, summer, and school break trips;
     · Monthly weekend community service opportunities, especially in Prospect Park;
     · Learning Passport, whereby students are dismissed early once a month to participate in explorations of cultural, environmental and educational resources in New York City.

• Curriculum support for partner-based, credit-bearing classes;
• Collaboration with non-teaching staff at BASE, including Guidance and Parent Coordinator, to further the engagement of the school community with Prospect Park;
• Administrative support for special projects within the Education Department as assigned.
• Other duties as required.

Qualifications include Bachelor’s degree in science, environmental education, environmental studies, or a related field; proven ability to manage and follow through on projects; proven ability and willingness to work collaboratively with formal and informal educators as well as colleagues at other institutions; experience and interest in teaching in outdoor settings; proven interest in and ability to work with teens with diverse backgrounds; strong organizational, written and oral communication skills, demonstrable professional presence, and leadership ability. NYS Driver’s License required, along with willingness and ability to drive Park vehicles. Fluency in a second language, especially Creole, French or Spanish is a plus.

Salary: mid-high $30K depending on experience.

The Prospect Park Alliance offers an excellent benefits package. The Prospect Park Alliance is an equal opportunity employer. To Apply: Please email resume and cover letter to job059@prospectpark.org.
