A Place for Community

Lakeside is designed first and foremost with the needs of Prospect Park's vibrant and diverse community in mind. Current plans envision an improved landscape, scenic views and walking paths, expanded skating and recreational facilities and picnic grounds. In addition, roadway, parking and traffic safety enhancements will make the southeast quadrant of the Park more accessible to all visitors. The Lakeside Center with two state-of the-art rinks, one solely for recreational skating, the other for hockey and figure skating, will also include a café, classroom space, and other amenities.  Lakeside will be open to the public year-round for multiple recreational uses, including roller skating and water features in summer, replacing the current single-use winter-only skating rink.

While the current rink cuts visitors off from the Lake, Lakeside will bring visitors right to the lake shore by restoring and expanding a curving pedestrian terrace at the edge of scenic Prospect Lake.

Pending funding, construction on Lakeside is expected to begin in 2009 and be completed by late 2011. If you are interested in supporting Lakeside at Prospect Park, please contact Caledonia Kearns at (718) 965-8985 or via email.
