| So Much for So Many

Picnic area in front of the new Lakeside Center
Lakeside addresses urgent community needs:
• Brooklyn has the lowest ratio of green space to resident in the nation |
• Apartment dwelling Brooklynites rely on Prospect Park for recreation and relaxation – it is their back yard |
• Many neighborhoods surrounding Prospect Park are among the borough’s most economically disadvantaged |
• The ice skating rink currently serves fewer than 2% of the Park’s visitors due to seasonal and structural limitations |
Lakeside will provide:
• A longer ice skating season with two new rinks, one open and one covered |
• A roller skating rink in Prospect Park for the first time |
• Three additional acres of green space |
• A redesigned Park entrance that reduces vehicular traffic and improves pedestrian safety |
• New spaces for environmental learning |
