Bald Cypress (Taxodium distichum) Located on the edge of the water, this tree seems right at home. When viewing this tree, look on the ground and try to find the "knees" - these are parts of its roots protruding from the ground. These knees can be found quite a ways off, and yes: they belong to the same tree. It’s a great way to see how extensive the root systems of trees are. When in the Park, please respect this tree by only looking and not touching.
