Macy’s Fishing Clinic:

The *NEW* Macy’s Fishing Clinic at Prospect Park

Change is in the air at Prospect Park – along with the fishing lines!  In 2011 the decades-old Macy's Fishing Contest became the new and improved Macy’s Fishing Clinic, an exciting, summer-long program that better serves Brooklyn’s children by offering quality fishing instruction and providing superior fishing equipment and tackle.  Children 15 and under are  introduced to the recreational sport of fishing through the following three key areas:

     1.    Fishing Safely: casting and pole techniques that safeguard fishers, other people, and wildlife; staying on the shore; using biodegradable line; and disposing of used hooks and lines.

     2.    Fishing Kindly:  fishing with “barbless” hooks (use pliers to demonstrate how to remove barbs); gently removing hooks from fish; keeping hands moist to protect fish skin and gills; and discussing catch and release.

     3.    Fishing Environmentally:  teach about lead-free sinkers and their connection with food chain and toxicity; the hazards of fishing line; fishing from designated spots; and how digging for worms accelerates erosion.

Scheduled for 6 to 8 weekend days through July and August, the Macy’s Fishing Clinic serves between 300 and 500 children.  Macy’s logo is on  Park entrance banners for weeks leading up to the event

Our development staff is eager to work with you to create a sponsorship tailored to your business with valuable year-round recognition opportunities.
