University Open Air

Join Brooklyn Public Library in collaboration with Prospect Park Alliance for University Open Air, a free series of classes and workshops taught by professors, researchers, and academics who were trained outside of the U.S. Sessions will be offered on September 8, 10, 11, 15, 17 and 18.

University Open Air provides immigrant teachers, professors, and academics, who were trained outside of the U.S., an opportunity to share their knowledge with the public by welcoming students to enjoy free classes under the trees at Prospect Park.

Families and children can enjoy nature and explore the park on their own schedule at the Pop-Up Education Station! Join Prospect Park Alliance at locations around the park and surrounding neighborhoods as we bring our favorite activities from the Prospect Park Audubon Center and Lefferts Historic House on the road in easy-to-borrow play and go kits.

Come to the Pop-Up and hand pick your own Play + Go Kit with up to five (5) items and mix and match some historic games and toys or nature games and activities. Participate in our new Green + Grow activities by lending a hand in a stewardship activity such as raking, litter patrol or mulching and afterwards, take a fun nature walk and explore the natural wonders of the park or search for the park’s many historic elements.

Pop-Up Lefferts Play and Go Kit features a fun assortment of historic games that include Quoits, Rolling Hoops, Game of Graces, Checkers, and Mancala. You can also take home some fun games such as Nine-Man Morris, Igba-Ita Game of Chance, Lenape Dice Game or a DIY Scented Sachet Kit.

Pop-Up Audubon Play and Go Kits features a range of fun nature activities and games, as well as a birdwatching checklist with binoculars, and much more. Pop-Up Programs are made possible through the generous support of Con Edison.

Family Discovery Walk, 3pm

Prospect Park is a stopping point for hundreds of bird species each year! Join Prospect Park Alliance’s Audubon Center as we search for these amazing creatures and other nature around the park. Binoculars and bird guides are provided. This program departs promptly at 3 pm.
