While May Day isn’t celebrated by the general public in the United States today, it has a rich tradition of celebration in Europe and America. Popular activities included dancing around the maypole, crowning the Queen of May, and the giving of “May baskets,” which were small baskets of sweets or flowers given anonymously to neighbors.
