Development Assistant- Individual Giving

The Prospect Park Alliance is the non-profit organization that sustains, restores and advances Prospect Park, Brooklyn’s flagship park, for the benefit of diverse communities, working in partnership with the City of New York. The Alliance provides a majority of the operating budget and staff that care for Park, preserving the natural environment and historic design, and serving the community by providing public programming and amenities for the Park, which receives more than 10 million visits each year.

The Prospect Park Alliance, the nonprofit that restores and advances the Park, seeks a full-time Development Assistant-Individual Giving. Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Development Assistant will be the primary point of contact for the Alliance’s almost 4,000 member households. Responsible for processing contributions to the Alliance as well as assisting the Individual Giving Manager in the operations of the Membership program, this position is a prime opportunity to learn the basics of fundraising as part of a dynamic and successful development team that raises nearly $4 million annually.


Gift Processing & Data Entry

  • Enter member and donor gifts and pledges into donor database
  • Process credit card contributions
  • Maintain the health of the donor database through consistent, accurate data entry and prompt updates to constituent records
  • Perform invoice and donation reconciliation between donor database and finance systems

Individual Giving Program Assistance & Member Services

  • Act as the primary customer service representative for the Membership program, responding to phone and email queries and reaching out when needed to members.
  • Manage renewal and membership fulfillment processes, both in-house and through vendor
  • Produce donor acknowledgments
  • Support planning and execution of member events
  • Assist with regular member emails and mailings
  • Regularly update tracking documents for progress towards Individual Giving goals

General Development Support

  • Assist with a variety of Development Department functions and activities, as needed. May include:
  • Coordinate documents for Board of Directors meetings
  • Prepare individual giving appeals and other mailings
  • Manage team timesheets and expense reimbursements
  • General administrative support for Development department, including for AVP and VP Development


  • Accuracy, efficiency, organization, and attention to detail are vital
  • Data entry experience, especially with nonprofits, experience with Raiser’s Edge or other fundraising database software
  • Familiarity with fundraising and basic accounting principles
  • Excellent interpersonal and strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends, as needed
  • A driver's license valid in the state of New York and the ability and willingness to drive Park vehicles
  • Bachelor’s degree

The Development Assistant-Individual Giving position is a full time, year round, 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 5:00pm or a schedule consistent with the needs of current projects. The position is also eligible for benefits including a tax-deferred 403(b) plan.
