Donor Relations Manager

Be part of the driving force that sustains Prospect Park, Brooklyn's flagship park. The Prospect Park Alliance, the nonprofit that restores and advances the Park, seeks an energetic, creative and dedicated development professional for the full-time position of Donor Relations Manager to join a dynamic and successful development team that raises nearly $4 million annually in operating support.

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Development, the Manager is responsible for the daily operation and strategic growth of the Prospect Partners program, a group of individual donors who give annual gifts of $1,500 and above. In addition to helping grow and steward relationships with members of the Partners program, the Manager will also strategize, coordinate, implement and expand the Alliance’s emergent major donor program.

Responsibilities

  • Manage personal portfolio and create moves management plan for 100-150 mid-level donors giving at the $1,500 level and above
  • Create and oversee moves management plan for 50+ lead donors giving at the $5,000 level and above by providing accurate and timely portfolio management for President and AVP Development
  • Engage mid-level donors through phone, email and in-person qualification and cultivation meetings
  • Work closely with Assistant Vice President to advance current donors and new prospects to the major donor level ($10,000+)
  • Draft donor-related correspondence and copy, e.g. acknowledgment letters, cover letters, brochure/web copy, emails
  • Track all “moves” in donor database, set follow-up actions as appropriate and flag individuals in need of next steps
  • Coordinate prospect research and draft background briefs for donor and prospect meetings
  • With Assistant Vice President, lead prep meetings for President in advance of donor and prospect meetings
  • Oversee Development Operations Coordinator’s work to produce acknowledgments and ensure database management for donor portfolio and prospects
  • Collaborate with Development’s Fundraising Events colleagues to plan donor stewardship events (8-10 per year), including managing invitation lists and RSVPs
  • Work with Individual Giving Manager to identify pipeline of donors for upgrade opportunities from Membership and Commemorative Giving programs
  • Participate in and work with members of the development team on donor relations at fundraising events
  • Stay informed on industry trends, best practices, and innovative approaches, and make recommendations as appropriate
  • Additional general Development department support as needed

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Two to three years of individual giving, major gifts and/or fundraising experience in a non-profit setting
  • Knowledge of donor cultivation and stewardship best practices and moves management strategies
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills, as well as comfort interacting one-on-one with supporters in person, by email, letter and phone
  • Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills
  • Comfortable coordinating the solicitation of gifts
  • Robust project management skills, with ability to juggle multiple projects, problem-solve and pay close attention to detail
  • Facility with analytics and numbers, and an ability to use data to make decisions
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite required
  • Experience with Raiser’s Edge (or other donor databases) and email marketing systems strongly preferred
  • Experience with prospect research tools (iWave, Wealth Engine, DonorSearch, etc.) a plus
  • Ability to work some nights and weekends, as needed
  • A driver's license valid in the state of New York and the ability and willingness to drive Park vehicles
  • The successful candidate for this position will be proactive and able to apply independent project ownership while also being flexible enough to collaborate effectively with team members.
