Groundskeeper II

Founded in 1987, Prospect Park Alliance is the non-profit organization that sustains, restores and advances Prospect Park, "Brooklyn's Backyard," in partnership with the City. The Alliance provides critical staff and resources that keep the Park green and vibrant for the diverse communities that call Brooklyn home.

Prospect Park Alliance is currently seeking a Groundskeeper II to work under the direction of the Turf Crew Supervisor to maintain lawns and ballfields throughout Prospect Park. Candidate can also be trained in-house to use some equipment.

Responsibilities

  •  Perform general maintenance and mowing of approximately 200 acres of lawns, including lawns inside Quaker Cemetery once per week.
  •  Operate and maintain various vehicles including but not limited to Toro Groundsmaster mowers, John Deere Gator, Toro Workman, Electric Gem car, and Ford pick-up truck.
  • Operate and maintain various power tools such as weedwhackers, blowers, lawn mowers, ballfield pump, rototiller and pressure washer.
  •  Daily maintenance of all equipment and storage containers.
  • Assist with lawn renovations.
  • Install, maintain, and remove ballfield and lawn renovation fences.
  •  Assist crews from ballfields, landscape management, and maintenance and operations when necessary for emergencies, special events and special projects.
  • Interact with the public to help resolve issues, provide information, and answer general park questions
  •  Supervise various seasonal work forces in turf-related projects.

NOTE: Candidate can be trained in-house to use some equipment

Qualifications

  • Valid New York State Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Must possess physical capacity and mobility to perform related work tasks.
  •  1-2 years experience in turf/landscape management.
  •  Basic working knowledge of small and large engines and equipment upkeep.

Schedule

This is a seasonal benefitted position, Monday–Friday 7 am–3:30 pm, or as required by job. The position will start on March 26th, 2018 and will last through to November 2nd, 2018.
