Join Moliere in the Park and Prospect Park Alliance for a free, two-night (November 13 + 14) reading of Moliere's The School for Wives, featuring Orange is the New Black's Samira Wiley and Dominic Fumusa.
“And there are four things only she must know: to say her prayers, love me, spin, and sew.” To Arnolphe, these words describe the perfect, obedient wife and if all goes to plan, 17-year old Agnes, whom he has raised to know nothing but these four things, will serve him well. However, love strikes at the most inopportune times and on the eve of their wedding, Arnolphe discovers Agnes’s affections for the young and passionate Horace. Like any wise man in power, Arnolphe doubles down on his deceit and conspires to keep his control over Agnes’s mind and body. In the era of Trump and #metoo, The School for Wives is an incisive and hopeful take on the sheer power of youth and love.
This event is presented as part of Brooklyn Falls for France, a cultural season organized by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy and FACE Foundation.
