Coming in from the Cold: An Event for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorders

Saturday, December 10 , 11 am – 12 pm, 2016

Come in from the Cold to the Lefferts Historic House to learn how the family would spend the cold winter months making and playing with toys and games While you're here make a classic cup and ball toy to take home. Registration is required, RSVP today.

Join the Prospect Park Alliance and the Historic House Trust for an early opening of the Lefferts Historic House, an exclusive event for children with the Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Have a fun day of interactive learning experiences with sensory-based exhibits and activities! This special event includes the following modifications:

  • Attendance Limited: by invitations and RSVP only. Please Register.
  • Light and Sound reduction to accommodate those with noise sensitivities.
  • Extra sensory-based activities to provide fun for a wide range of preferences
  • Downloadable Pre-Trip Social Story available on the Lefferts page
  • Bring a picnic to enjoy in our yard
  • A comfortable, protected and accepting environment

Nature Exploration

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Nature Play, 10–11 am: Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities.
  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm:  The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalists,12–1 pm: So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides.
  • Introduction to Bird Watching, Saturdays, 12–1 pm: Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Led by the Brooklyn Bird Club.
