Pop-Up Audubon: Wonderful Warblers

Saturday, May 28 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2016

Join the Alliance to discover why Prospect Park is an important place for many species of birds. Through fun games, experiments and citizen science projects, learn why warblers are so wonderful.

  • Adventure Hike, 12–1 pm: Alliance naturalists will introduce you to the natural history of Prospect Park and the Park's hidden trails. Recommended for families with children 5 and older.
  • Nature on the Go!, 1–2 pm: Did you know 25 types of warblers stop at Prospect Park in May? Learn how to identify these cute and colorful birds on a bird walk. Participants will also create their own pair of binoculars and learn how to identify these colorful songbirds.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Did you know that trees help trees? After learning how mulch protects tree roots, spend time spreading wood chips around trees.
  • Family Bird Watching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Come to Lefferts and see how wool was used on a Flatbush farm. You can brush the wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle, and even make a felt ball to take home with you.

Nature Exploration

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Nature Play, 10–11 am: Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities.
  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm:  The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalists,12–1 pm: So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides.
  • Introduction to Bird Watching, Saturdays, 12–1 pm: Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Led by the Brooklyn Bird Club.

Pop Up Audubon II: Animal Clues

Saturday, May 28 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2016

Join Alliance educators at the Peninsula to learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” we are weaving with natural materials.

  • Discovery Pack, 11 am–4 pm: The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families. In April, play Habitat Bingo, search for birds and design a home for one of the Park's many living things.
  • Lakeside Nature Stroll, 12–1 pm: Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk through the meandering paths of the Peninsula and search for signs of animal homes.
  • Junior Naturalists, 1–2 pm: Help Alliance naturalists track migrating birds and invasive plants that impact where animals can make their homes in this citizen science program.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Let’s lend a helping hand to make our park a better place.  Learn how mulch helps trees, spread wood chips or protect the environment by removing damaging litter.
  • Family Bird Watching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Ranger's Choice: Nature and History Bike Tour

Saturday, May 28 , 11 am – 12:30 pm, 2016

Bike through Prospect Park with the Urban Park Rangers while enjoying the sights and sounds of spring. Participants should bring their own bike and helmet and will learn about biking protocol in NYC Parks. 

Space is limited and registration is required. Exact meeting location will be announced to registered participants. To register, visit the Urban Park Rangers online on Wednesday, May 18.

Memorial Day Weekend at Lakeside

Saturday, May 28 , 12 pm – 6 pm, 2016

Join us this Memorial Day weekend at Lakeside to celebrate the grand opening of our Splash Pad Water Feature! Bring your friends and family to enjoy some free beats from DJ Dhundee as you skate, splash, and take in the Lakeside views. Guests can also enjoy BBQ, boat rentals, gelato, and a dunk tank!

The first 300 people to RSVP online will receive complimentary admission to the roller rink.
