Art in the Park: Art Slope

All Day, Sunday, September 25, 2016

The Prospect Park Alliance is partnering with the Park Slope Civic Counsel to bring a new multi-arts festival to Park Slope. Taking place over nine days, from September 17 through September 25, Art Slope will unite artists from all over Brooklyn as they display their work, which speaks about issues like sustainability, politics and social happenings.

In cooperation with the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation, ten installations will be in Prospect Park. With works ranging from sculpture to painting, film to performance art, live music and sound installations, all kinds of art will be available to interact with and learn from throughout Park Slope.

The festival will kick off with a “Wearable Art Walk” at Washington Park on September 17 at noon. Artist Maria de Los Angeles has created a line of wearable paper dresses reflecting social, historical, and political issues affecting the children of undocumented immigrants, which she will wear and discuss on the catwalk.

Art Slope events are free and open to all ages. Please visit artslope.nyc for more information.

The Goonies: Citi Bike Movie Night

Thursday, September 22 , 6 pm – 10 pm, 2016

To celebrate this summer’s expansion in Brooklyn, Harlem and the Upper East and Upper West Sides, Citi Bike is hosting this fall’s only outdoor bike-in movie at the Prospect Park Bandshell featuring screening of childhood classic 'The Goonies'.

The screening will begin at dusk. Attendees are encouraged bring blankets and chairs, as there will be no formal seating for the event.

Grab a bite at the food trucks, or a free snack from Clif Bar.  Clif Bar will also provide small bike repairs on site.

Transportation Alternatives will provide free valet bike parking for anyone who pedals to the event on a personal bike. Citi Bike will offer Valet Service at a special "mobile station" for riders to end their trip directly at the bandshell.

Reduced-cost Citi Bike memberships will be available to attendees who sign up for Citi Bike for the first time. Lyft ambassadors will also be on-site offering swag and ride credits.

Guests are asked to RSVP for the event.

Participatory Budgeting Neighborhood Assembly

Thursday, September 22 , 6:30 pm – 9 pm, 2016

This year City Council Member Brad Lander has set aside $1.5 million in his budget for projects that are thought up—and voted on—by you! On September 22 at the Park Slope Library, Council Member Lander is hosting a neighborhood assembly focused on parks, the environment, streets and transit, which is co-sponsored by the Prospect Park Alliance, League of Conservation Voters, Gowanus Canal Conservancy and New Yorkers for Parks.

Attend the assembly to learn more about participatory budgeting and share your project ideas. Previous years' participatory budgeting has provided funding for important Park projects, including improved pathways and drainage, freeze-resistant drinking fountains and much more. Visit bradlander.nyc for more information.
