Campfire Conversations: Wisdom and Age

Prospect Park Alliance and Brooklyn Public Library present Campfire Conversations, a series of themed community conversations around an outdoor campfire at the Lefferts Historic House, complete with music, refreshments and mulled wine. Join the Prospect Park Alliance and Brooklyn Public Library around the campfire an open dialogue about the treatment and inclusion of elders in contemporary society and how wisdom and knowledge is transmitted across generations.

Pop-up Audubon: Wonderful Warblers

Saturday, May 6 , 11 am – 4 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance to discover why Prospect Park is an important place for many species of birds. Through fun games, experiments and citizen science projects, learn why warblers are so wonderful.

  • Discovery Pack, 11 am–4 pm: The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Adventure Hike, 12–1 pm: Alliance naturalists will introduce you to the natural history of Prospect Park and the Park's hidden trails. Recommended for families with children 5 and older. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.
  • Nature on the Go!, 1–2 pm: Did you know 25 types of warblers stop at Prospect Park in May? Learn how to identify these cute and colorful birds on a bird walk. This program leaves promptly at 1 pm.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2– 3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by picking up litter, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 2 pm.
  • Family Birdwatching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

Join Prospect Park Alliance  to learn how wool was used on a Flatbush farm. You can brush the wool with carding paddles, spin yarn using a drop spindle and even make a felt ball to take home with you.

Nature Exploration

Saturday, May 6 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for fun nature activities each weekend, and also participate in our 150th anniversary species count for special prizes.

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalist, 10 am: So you think you are a naturalist? Investigate the natural world by learning how to use tools and guides used by biologist. This activity leads you through activities to discover the Audubon Center and Prospect Park.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 11 am: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This is activity is led by Alliance staff and all materials are provided.

Pop-up Audubon: Animal Clues

Saturday, May 6 , 11 am – 4 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance to learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” we are weaving with natural materials.

  • Discovery Pack, 11–4 pm: Get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Lakeside Nature Stroll, 12–1 pm: Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk through the meandering paths of the Peninsula and search for signs of animal homes.
  • Junior Naturalists, 1–2 pm: Help Alliance naturalists track migrating birds and invasive plants that impact where animals can make their homes in this citizen science program.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 2pm.
  • Family Birdwatching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Art in the Parks: Carole Eisner

All Day

In partnership with NYC Parks' Art in the Parks project, the Prospect Park Alliance presents a public exhibition of sculpture by Carole Eisner. Four sculptures, created from I-beams twisted into lyrical forms will be on display at Grand Army Plaza, Bartel Pritchard Square, Litchfield Villa and the Peninsula through Spring 2017.
