Pups on the Plaza

Saturday, August 26 , 9:30 am – 12 pm

Central Library's plaza is going to the dogs! In honor of National Dog Day, our friends and neighbors at Brooklyn Public Library are teaming up with Dog Parker and Slobbr to celebrate man's best friend. They'll have dog-themed activities and story time for kids, plus treats and wading pools for our four-legged patrons. If you're looking for a furever friend, rescue groups will have adoptable dogs available. Dogs and dog lovers of all ages are welcome!

Nature Exploration

Saturday, August 26 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for fun nature activities each weekend, and also participate in our 150th anniversary species count for special prizes.

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalist, 10 am: So you think you are a naturalist? Investigate the natural world by learning how to use tools and guides used by biologist. This activity leads you through activities to discover the Audubon Center and Prospect Park.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 11 am: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This is activity is led by Alliance staff and all materials are provided.

Pop-Up Audubon II: Gone Fishin' Clinics

Saturday, August 26 , 12 pm – 5 pm
  • Family Birdwatching: 12-1 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify the over 200 species of birds that call the Park home! This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.
  • Prospect Park Audubon Center's Gone Fishin' Clinics: 1:30 + 3:30 pm: Join the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about local fish species, responsible fishing practices, and instruction on how to use our spincasting rods. Instruction, tackle, and bait will be provided. This hour long program starts promptly at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, late participants cannot be accommodated. Presented by Con Edison.

Pop-Up Audubon II is most suitable for children 8 and over.

Pop-Up Audubon I: Macy’s Fishing Clinic

Saturday, August 26 , 12 pm – 5 pm

Join Alliance educators to learn about ecology under the water and in the air! Pop-Up Audubon I is most suitable for children 8 and under.

  • Macy’s Fishing Clinic, 1 + 3 pm: This popular summer program offers kids 15 & under the opportunity to fish.  Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety and will even get to collect their own bait. First come, first serve.
  • Family Bird Watching, 4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify the over 200 species birds that call the Park home!

Zen Zoo Kids Yoga

Saturday, August 26 , 11 am – 12 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Shape Up NYC for this yoga series for kids! Experienced yoga instructor Kat Janicka will lead these animal-themed classes in Prospect Park's Boathouse. Asanas will be based in animal forms and shapes, and we will ommmm the sounds of the creatures in the wild. Class will be based on mindfulness, breath meditation, basic breath exercises for kids, visualization and laughter. 

Please note: This class is open to children and their caregivers, no registration is required.  Please bring your own mat.

Morning at Children's Corner

Saturday, August 26 , 9 am – 12 pm

Prospect Park Alliance invites members at the $150 Family Supporter level and above to join us for a morning of fun family activities.

9-10 am: A private hour at the Prospect Park Zoo with complimentary admission, including a live sea lion training session. The Discovery Center will also be open for children to explore their imagination.

10 am-12 pm: Lefferts Historic House and the Carousel open early for members. Help churn vanilla ice cream from scratch, and enjoy old-fashioned toys and games popular with Brooklyn children in the 19th century. Then head over to the Carousel for complimentary rides.

Registration is limited to 2 adults and up to 5 children per membership.

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
