Winter on a Flatbush Farm
Sunday, November 25
, 1 pm – 3 pm, 2018
Get ready for winter as locals did in the 19th century farming village of Flatbush. Learn how to make your own scented balm using cotton seed oil, bees wax and vegetable lard, watch a master spinster spin wool thread, and enjoy historic board and card games. Sample traditional Dutch treats such as olekoks with apple butter made at our outdoor hearth from a Lefferts family recipe. Also try our preserved food tasting flight of traditional foods preserved by drying, salting, fermenting or canning, from Native American pemmican (dried beef and cranberries) to pickles. At 3 pm, St. Nicholas will be arriving on horseback and will gift children that feed his horse carrots oranges and chocolate coins. |
