Prospect Park Alliance Wednesday Woodland Corps Orientation

Wednesday, May 2 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance the first Wednesday of each month for this introduction to the Wednesday Woodland Corps, a dedicated team of volunteers who care for the Park’s 250 acres of forest. The Woodland Corps assist with fence repair + maintenance, woodland trash pickup, invasive plant removal, planting, mulching, and other woodland related tasks. Volunteers who have attended an Introductory Session may attend additional Wednesday Woodland Corps events throughout each month.

Wednesday Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square

Wednesday, May 2 , 8 am – 3 pm, 2016

Nestled inside Prospect Park's tree-shaded southwest corner, this much-loved market, occurring every Sunday and Wednesday, is where South Slope and Windsor Terrace residents stock up on locally grown staples. The offerings range from a selection of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, plants, and flowers, to fresh-caught fish and organic baked goods. For a full calendar of events and a list of sellers, visit the GrowNYC website.

This Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square is also open on Sundays, 9 am–3 pm, May 5 through December 22.

Note: The Greenmarket will be closed on December 25, 2019 and January 1, 2020.

Art in the Parks: Fitzhugh Karol

All Day, Wednesday, May 2, 2018

Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks presents a public sculpture exhibition by artist Fitzhugh Karol through the NYC Parks Art in the Parks program. Two sculptures of colorful intersecting steel shapes reference familiar silhouettes of stairs and hillsides. Their abstract and playful shapes invite interaction and are a reminder of man’s imprint on the landscape. The two sculptures, titled “Searches” and “Reaches,” will be on display through Fall 2018.

About the Artist:
Fitzhugh Baylies Karol is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and designer interested in the integration of sculpture within landscape and architecture. Fitzhugh’s large outdoor sculptures and public works were be exhibited in three New York City parks in 2017. He has previously exhibited at the Bartow-Pell Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, The LongHouse Reserve, Rochester Contemporary Arts Center, and The Aidron Duckworth Museum.

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
