Fall Feast

Sunday, September 30 , 1 pm – 4 pm, 2018

Come celebrate this year's harvest with Prospect Park Alliance at the Lefferts Historic House. Harvest, cook and eat potatoes that were planted in our garden back in May. You can also challenge friends and family to potato sack races!

Prospect Park History Walking Tour

Sunday, September 30 , 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, 2018

Explore Prospect Park with a season of special guided walking tours of this iconic park in the heart of Brooklyn, presented by Turnstile Tours in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance. These two-hour tours will examine the Park’s many layers of natural and human history, from the flora and geology to the architectural eras visible in the built environment.

Please note there will not be a regular tour on Sunday, October 14, due to Open House New York. Learn more on the OHNY website.

Smorgasburg Prospect Park

Sunday, September 30 , 11 am – 6 pm, 2018

Smorgasburg, the celebrated open-air food fair presented by Brooklyn Flea in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance, returns to Prospect Park this spring! On Sundays from April through October, over 100 local and regional food purveyors will gather on Breeze Hill to offer a range of cuisines.

Faces and Stories of Prospect Park

Sunday, September 30 , 12 pm – 5 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Virginia L. S. Freire Photography at the Lefferts Historic House for Faces and Stories of Prospect Park. A photo testament to the individuals, couples, families, friends, and even canines, that make up the vibrant landscape of Prospect Park.

Virginia L. S. Freire is a fine art portrait artist and visual storyteller. Her boutique portrait studio specializes in creating artful portraits telling extraordinary stories that will endure over generations. She is a Brooklyn native with a home-based studio in Prospect Heights where she lives with her husband and two children in the brownstone where she grew up just blocks from Prospect Park.

Radical Raptors: Pop-Up Audubon I

Sunday, September 30 , 10 am – 3 am, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday and Sunday in September to learn about the radical raptors in Brooklyn’s Backyard. Gather the whole family to learn about different species of raptors that migrate through Prospect Park. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Nature Play, 10 am–2 pm,  Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities. Program includes opportunities to dissect an owl pellet and paint with mud!

Nature's Helpers, 12–1 pm,  Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Family Birdwatching, 1–2 pm,  Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds? After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds! This program leaves promptly at 1 pm

Nature Exploration

Sunday, September 30 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2018

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm, Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs,ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm, Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am.

Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm, Do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity, Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided.  This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Climate Clues: Pop-Up Audubon II

Sunday, September 30 , 10 am – 3 pm, 2018

Explore how climate change and environmental impacts affect the park’s ecosystems. Pop-Up Audubon II is best for ages 8 and over. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–2 pm, Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

Nethermead & Ravine Ramble, 11 am–12 pm, Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk following the midsection of Prospect Park’s watercourse and explore the unique ecosystems of the Ravine and Nethermead. This program leaves promptly at 11 am.

Junior Naturalists, 12–1 pm, Investigate how climate change and other human impacts have altered ecosystems in Prospect Park in this citizen science program. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Nature’s Helpers, 1–2 pm, Let’s lend a helping hand to make our park a better place. Learn how mulch helps trees, spread wood chips or protect the environment by removing damaging litter. This program leaves promptly at 1 pm.

Family Bird Watching, 2–3 pm, After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.

Prospect Park Zoo

Migration Sensation

Sunday, September 30 , 10 am – 5:30 pm, 2018

It’s time to fly south – or is it? Join Prospect Park Zoo every weekend in September to learn which birds are flying south for the winter and which are staying right here at home. Visit some of the zoo’s most beautiful residents and learn about the amazing avian conservation efforts by the Wildlife Conservation Society. Family fun also includes themed games, scavenger hunt and bird biofact stations.

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
