Nature Exploration

Saturday, May 4 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2019

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday through June for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Come explore nature on your own with our Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools, perfect for families and kids to interact with the park in a whole new way!
Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am.
Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Intro to Birdwatching

Saturday, May 4 , 12 pm – 1 pm, 2019

Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club every Saturday through June to take a tour and learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 12 pm from outside the Audubon Center.

Children's Corner

Members Morning at Children’s Corner

Saturday, May 4 , 9 am – 12 pm, 2019

Prospect Park Alliance invites members at the $150 Family Supporter level and above to join us for a morning of fun family activities. Enjoy a private hour at the Prospect Park Zoo with complimentary admission, including a live sea lion training session. Then head over to the Lefferts Historic House and the Carousel, which will be open early for members. Enjoy old-fashioned toys and games popular with Brooklyn children in the 19th century and complimentary rides on the Carousel.

Members interested in Members Morning at Children's Corner can email membership@prospectpark.org for invitation information for this event.

Saturday Volunteer Corps

Prospect Park Alliance's Saturday Volunteer Corps is a great way to explore Prospect Park and give back to your community! Every Saturday starting in May, join Prospect Park Alliance to help care for Brooklyn's Backyard. Volunteers will help with tree care, maintaining the park's perimeter, litter patrol, bench painting and more!

Wild and Wooly Festival

Saturday, May 4 , 10 am – 4 pm, 2019

It’s a wild and wooly celebration every weekend at Prospect Park Zoo! Learn how goat herders in Mongolia are actually saving local wildlife in the cashmere industry. Enjoy special talks about the Zoo's barnyard animals and crafts every weekend, and on one weekend only, witness the fascinating shearing of the sheep by a professional shearer.

Pop-Up Audubon II: Animal Clues

Saturday, May 4 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2019

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday in May for Pop Up Audubon II: Animal Clues! Learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” we are weaving with natural materials. Pop-Up Audubon II is best for ages 8 and over. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Discovery Pack, 11 am–4 pm: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
Lakeside Nature Stroll, 12–1 pm: Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk through the meandering paths of the Peninsula and search for signs of animal homes. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.
Junior Naturalists, 1–2 pm: Help Alliance naturalists track migrating birds and invasive plants that impact where animals can make their homes in this citizen science program. This program starts promptly at 1 pm.
Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 2 pm.
Family Birdwatching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

Wonderful Warblers: Pop-up Audubon I

Saturday, May 4 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2019

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday in May to discover why Prospect Park is an important place for many species of birds. Through fun games, experiments and citizen science projects, learn why warblers are so wonderful. Pop-Up Audubon I is best for ages 8 and under. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Lefferts Historic House

Harvesting Color

Saturday, May 4 , 2 pm – 4 pm, 2019

Every weekend in May, join Prospect Park Alliance at the Lefferts Historic House on an exploration of color from the natural world.  Learn how to use natural ingredients such as flowers, berries and food scraps to naturally dye fabrics.  Participants are welcome to bring one natural fiber item (cotton, linen, canvas, or silk) to dye.  No previous dyeing experience necessary! All ages welcome!  Participation is limited and is on a first come first serve basis
