Re-Imagining the City
How can diverse communities come together to create a shared vision for vibrant public spaces that are welcoming to all? Join Sue Donoghue, President of Prospect Park Alliance, the non-profit organization that sustains Prospect Park, and Casey Wang, Senior Project Manager with Hester Street, a non-profit organization that works to ensure neighborhoods are shaped by the people who live in them, in a dialogue moderated by journalist Allison C. Meier. The group will discuss the Alliance’s yearlong community engagement effort to create a community-driven vision for Prospect Park’s former Rose Garden, a little-known landscape that borders communities on the east side of the Park.
Democracy Lab at the Spacebuster, an inflatable pavilion or “bubbletecture,” sets up shop at the Soldiers & Sailors Memorial Arch June 11-17, 2018. Enjoy 50 free programs over seven days focused on civic engagement, social justice, freedom and critical thinking—including daily readings of The New York Times moderated by artists and community members, chair-making workshops, artist-led walks, literary cabarets and debates, and presentations on graffiti and green architecture. Presented by Brooklyn Public Library in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance, raumlaborberlin, Storefront for Art & Architecture, and visitBerlin.
