Opening Day

Saturday, April 11 , 10 am – 11 am, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance and the Prospect Park Baseball Association to celebrate the start of the baseball and softball season. Over 1,000 players ages 4-18 years old will parade down 7th Avenue, led by local marching bands and civic leaders, to the Bandshell, where ceremonial first pitches will be thrown to start the season.

Junior Volunteer Corps

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for a day of fun as we gear up for spring cleaning. Families and elementary-school-aged groups are invited to join us to rake leaves and enjoy refreshments. Learn the value of service and meet other families on this day of giving back. Please pre-register online.

Join the Prospect Park Alliance during Spring Break for family-friendly activities at favorite Park destinations, April 3–12. 

Nature Exploration
Prospect Park Audubon Center, Free

  • Blooming Naturalist, 1 pm
    So you think you are a naturalist? Join Alliance educators to make your own nature journal, learning how to use binoculars and field guides.
  • Nature on the Go! 3 pm
    An Alliance naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us and participate in a citizen science project. Nature on the Go! will not meet on Saturday, April 11. 
  • Animal Encounter, 4 pm
    Curious as to how Snappy the turtle got her name? Want to watch the snake gobble a mouse? Join Alliance naturalists to meet the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. Learn what it takes to care for these amazing creatures and assist in an actual feeding. Animal Encounter will not meet on Saturday, April 11. 

Spring Sprouts, 2–4 pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation

It's time for spring planting! Join the Alliance at Lefferts Historic House where you can make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant an herb seed to take home.

Carousel Rides, 12–5 pm
Children’s Corner, $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, free with Alliance Family Plus membership

Celebrate the start of spring with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Alliance at the $125 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!

Bring your pups to the Park for treats and great company. FIDO in Prospect Park offers free goodies for dogs and their owners as well as provides information pertaining to off-leash activities and issues.


Lefferts Historic House

Bones of an Old Dutch House Tour

Saturday, April 11 , 12 pm – 1 pm, 2015

Examine the white oak timbers (the bones) of Lefferts Historic House and the many layers that were added, subtracted and changed over the past 230 years with the Prospect Park Alliance. Climb the staircase for a view of the attic's smokehouse and descend into the cellar for a look at the foundation. For adults and teenagers; only 10 people per tour.
