Nature Exploration

Sunday, December 1 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday through November for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Come explore nature on your own with our Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools, perfect for families and kids to interact with the park in a whole new way!
Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am. Animal Encounter is presented in partnership with Macy's.
Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Bartel-Pritchard Square

Sunday Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square

Sunday, December 1 , 9 am – 3 pm

Nestled inside Prospect Park's tree-shaded southwest corner, this much-loved weekday market is where South Slope and Windsor Terrace residents stock up on locally grown staples. Open from May 5 to December 22, the offerings range from a selection of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, plants, and flowers, to fresh-caught fish and organic baked goods. This Greenmarket at Bartel-Pritchard Square is also open on Wednesdays year-round from 8 am to 3 pm.

Early Morning Bird Walk: 12 Birds of Winter

Sunday, December 1 , 8 am – 9 am

Not everyone flies south for the winter. Join Prospect Park Alliance and spot Prospect Park’s most common winter birds during their busiest time of day. Tour leaves promptly at 8 am. Led by the Brooklyn Bird Club.

Winter Zoo Wonderland

Sunday, December 1 , 11 am – 3 pm

Every weekend in December and January, explore Prospect Park Zoo’s wintery outdoor trail, warm up in their indoor exhibits, and discover the special adaptations animals have to survive in the cold. You’ll be toasty warm at the Zoo as you find out who at the zoo loves the cold…and who doesn’t. Post your “Zoo Year” resolutions for a better planet on the Zoo’s special wall and on social media to inspire others.

Winter on a Flatbush Farm

Sunday, December 1 , 1 pm – 3 pm

Get ready for winter as they did in the 19th century farming village of Flatbush. Join Prospect Park Alliance and NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital for an afternoon of winter fun. Watch a master spinster spin wool into thread, and enjoy Dutch treats on our outdoor hearth made from a Lefferts family recipe. Enjoy pickled and preserved tastings with NYP Methodist, and last, but not least, a visit from Saint Nicholas  on horseback, where children will be presented with treats and have a chance to feed his horse (3 pm).
