A Guide to Eco-Friendly Picnics in the Park

Prospect Park’s beloved 585 acres make for the perfect place to get together with friends and family outdoors. As you plan your next gathering in the park, make sure to Be A Park Champion and keep in mind a few tips and tricks to help keep Prospect Park green and healthy.

Please note that all gatherings of over 20 people require a permit.

Respect the Trees:

Prospect Park’s trees are the perfect backdrop to any event, but for their health, nothing should be attached to their branches or trunks—this includes decorations, hammocks and swings and picnic games. Brooklyn’s Backyard gets over 10 million visits each year, and the wear and tear from these crowds takes a toll on the trees which are fragile and susceptible to injury. Instead, create your festive environment by setting your decorations with colorful picnic blankets and free-standing items.
