Alfreda’s Black Earth, Living Memory: The Last Angel of History (1996)

Join Prospect Park Alliance, Alfreda’s Cinema and Kinfolk Tech for an open-air screening of The Last Angel of History (1996), the landmark essay film by John Akomfrah.

A foundational text of Afrofuturist cinema, the film traces the connections between Pan-African culture, science fiction, intergalactic travel, and digital technology—positioning speculative thought as a lens through which to understand displacement, memory, and Black diasporic experience. Through interviews with artists, writers, musicians, and thinkers, including Sun Ra, George Clinton, Octavia Butler, and others, Akomfrah crafts a visionary meditation on Black futures and the technological imagination.

The evening will begin with a Love From the Sun day party curated by JADALAREIGN, featuring an immersive pre-show blend of Afro-house, jazz, and techno beneath the summer sky.
