Brooklyn Sandwich + Lemonade Showdown
Join Prospect Park Alliance and DJ Dick Burroughs for a Brooklyn Sandwich & Lemonade Showdown, where sandwich chefs and lemonade makers compete to win either “People’s Choice” or “Judges Champion” awards. A DJ will grace the porch and a historical talk about the sandwiches and lemonade will also be on the porch.

The Brooklyn Sandwich & Lemonade Showdown is a Black foodways event: sandwich makers have the option of remixing sandwiches invented or popularized by Black people.
The Lemonade Showdown is dedicated to John T. White, a Black inventor who patented an improved lemon squeezer in 1896 (U.S. Patent No. 572,849) — the basic form of which is still built into lemon squeezers today. His invention simplified squeezing lemons and making lemonade. We call him the “Invisible Inventor,” since no verifiable image of John T. White survives.
