Guyana Folk Festival Symposium & Literary Hang: Masquerade Lives On

Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Guyana Cultural Association of New York for a special day of exhibitions, panel discussions, live interviews and performances that tell the multi-dimensional story of Guyana’s Masquerade, its roots, routes, encounters and exchanges.

Guyana Folk Festival 2025 celebrates GCA’s silver anniversary–its 25th birthday. Like previous Guyana Folk Festival symposia, the 2025 symposium focuses on a particular dimension of the Guyanese experience. In 2025, the focus is Masquerade.

Since 2012, the Guyana Cultural Association of New York has led efforts to preserve and revitalize Guyana’s masquerade heritage. The 2025 symposium is an homage to that effort and the work of Dr. Juliet Emauel and the late Claire Ann Goring, M.S.
