Imani Day of Reflection and Celebration
Join Prospect Park Alliance to celebrate the last day of Kwanzaa, named Imani, Swahili for “faith.” Learn about the freedom-seekers enslaved at Lefferts Historic House in the early 19th century. The political revolution that these everyday heroes helped initiate led to the abolition of slavery in New York and nationwide. After learning about their struggles, attendees will march to the Abraham Lincoln monument at the Concert Grove for a reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, issued January 1st, 1863.
