Long Live J’ouvert!

Join Prospect Park Alliance, JouvayFest, and City Lore at Lefferts Historic House for Long Live J’ouvert! and enjoy a post-carnival celebration of food, music and conversation:

12-5 pm: Explore the J’ouvert Genesis Immersive Experience exhibit at Lefferts Historic House.
1 pm: Lecture and demo on J’ouvert Soul Food.
2 pm: Table Talk: “Brooklyn J’ouvert – Past and Future” with Dr. Patricia E. B Belcon, Janet “Flag Woman” Lewis and more.
3 pm: Lecture and demo with percussionist and band leader Anthony Reece.
4 pm: Rhythm Circle with Kutter’s Rhythm Section. Attendees are invited to bring their percussive instruments to join the fun!

Long Live J’ouvert! is part of ReImagine Lefferts, the Prospect Park Alliance initiative to re-envision the mission and programming at Lefferts Historic House to focus its interpretation and programming on exploring the lives, resistance and resilience of the Indigenous people of Lenapehoking, whose unceded ancestral lands the park and house rests upon, and the Africans enslaved by the Lefferts family.
