Third Life: Before the Mulch
Join the Flower Heart Alliance in collaboration with Prospect Park Alliance for Third Life: Before the Mulch, a public ikebana exhibition at the Prospect Park Boathouse. This poetic, ephemeral installation invites visitors to witness the transformation of discarded Christmas trees, collected from the park’s own mulch piles, into sculptural floral arrangements before the trees return to the earth through the annual Mulchfest tree-cycling event.
The exhibition features individual works by contemporary ikebana artists, as well as a collaborative large-scale outdoor sculpture constructed at the start of the new year. On Friday and Sunday, the exhibition will be accompanied by a selection of Kankyō Ongaku environmental and ambient music curated by Gamall.
On Saturday, January 3, the exhibition will be part of Winter Tea, a celebratory gathering at the Boathouse presented by Tea Arts & Culture featuring tea offerings, music performances, and poetry.
Third Life: Before the Mulch is organized by the Flower Heart Alliance, a collective founded by Kristina Bajunaishvili, with sponsorship from Tea Arts & Culture and support from the Prospect Park Alliance. Learn more about the Flower Heart Alliance.
