Uhuru Season: 17 Days of Freedom

Visit Lefferts toll booth to view a series of posters created by local artist Grey Jones. This site-specific installation commemorates the historical tradition of celebrating Juneteenth, the last day that Americans were freed from enslavement, and July 5, the day that many Black Americans historically celebrated American Independence as a sociopolitical protest to the continued enslavement of people prior to emancipation.

Plus, learn about The Food Griot’s curated recipes to engage with each Freedom showcased daily in the ‘Uhuru Days’ installation.
