Art in the Parks: Carole Eisner

In partnership with NYC Parks’ Art in the Parks project, the Prospect Park Alliance presents a public exhibition of sculpture by Carole Eisner. Four sculptures, created from I-beams twisted into lyrical forms will be on display at Grand Army Plaza, Bartel Pritchard Square, Litchfield Villa and the Peninsula through Spring 2017.

Flax Harvest

Join Alliance educators for the mid-summer flax harvest. Help harvest our flax crop and prepare it for processing.Learn how flax is processed into linen and try on some reproduction clothes for a fun photo-op in our farm wagon.

Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream

In celebration of the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s life & work, New York Classical Theatre returns to Prospect Park for another season of free, outdoor performances. Join the troupe July 6-10 for roving performances of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, one of the Bard’s most beloved works. 

The performance begins promptly at 7 pm on the north end of the Long Meadow, then roves from place to place for 120 minutes with no intermission. Enter the Park at Grand Army Plaza.

Spring Break in Prospect Park

Join the Prospect Park Alliance during Spring Break for family-friendly activities at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, Lefferts Historic House and the Carousel.

  • Nature Exploration, 12–4 pm
    Prospect Park Audubon Center, Free

    Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.
    Blooming Naturalist, 1–2 pm: So you think you are a naturalist? Join Alliance educators to make your own nature journal, learn how to use binoculars and field guides.
    Nature on the Go!, 2–3 pm: An Alliance naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us and participate in a Citizen Science project.
    Animal Encounter, 3–3:30 pm: Want to watch the snake gobble up a mouse? Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection and even assist in an actual feeding.
  • Spring Recess, 2–4pm
    Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation

    It’s time for spring planting! Join the Prospect Park Alliance at Lefferts Historic House where you can make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant an herb seed to take home.
  • Carousel Rides, 12-5 pm
    Children’s Corner, $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, free with Alliance Family Plus membership

    Celebrate the start of spring with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Alliance at the $125 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!

Tame Impala

Get set for two nights of psychodelic rock #AtTheBandshell! Australia’s Tame Impala, backed by Sweden’s Dungen, take to the Bandshell on back-to-back evenings to kick off BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn Festival’s string of summer benefit shows.     Bundle up and find out what your favorite Park animals are doing this winter. Join Alliance naturalists to discover the winter survival strategies of animals that live in Prospect Park. Enjoy nature games, science activities, bird watching, and take home your own tube of homemade lip balm!

Mulchfest

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for Mulchfest! Bring your holiday tree to Prospect Park, where it will go through a chipper and transform into environment-friendly mulch. Plus, you can take some home for your own yard or garden. Please remove all decorations from the trees. 

Mulchfest will take place on January 9 + 10 at both Third Street and Park Circle.

Volunteer!
Help assist people who bring their trees in for recycling by removing ornaments and distributing mulch. Register today.

Brooklyn’s Largest Menorah Lighting

The World’s Largest Menorah stands at a whopping 32 feet tall (the maximum allowed by Jewish law), and has been towering over Grand Army Plaza since 1985.

Every night, the menorah lighting celebration is accompanied by live music and hot latkes for all. Special gifts are distributed to every child, making this a family celebration and a must on everyone’s calendar.
