Take Action for Your Park

Spring is here, and with the warmer weather we are looking forward to welcoming you to Brooklyn’s Backyard. The last year has challenged us all, and it has meant so much that the park has been a place of respite and joy for you. And now we are counting on you to make a difference for your park!

Right now, there are a few simple actions you can take to make an impact for Prospect Park as the City gears up for its new budget cycle:

Sign the Play Fair Now Petition
City parks cover 14% of NYC but the NYC Parks budget is just 0.5% of the total City budget. In 2020, NYC Parks received the 2nd largest cut of any agency following COVID-19 austerity measures. Prospect Park Alliance and 300+ other groups and organizations are calling on the Mayor and City Council to restore essential funds to the NYC Parks department—and we need your support!

Support the Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center
In addition to the vital support of parks that comes through your advocacy of the Play Fair campaign, each year additional funding is allocated in the city budget for capital improvements. This year, Prospect Park Alliance is advocating for city funding to create the Shirley Chisholm Welcome Center, which will complement the restoration of the park’s Parkside and Ocean Avenue Entrance and its monument to Brooklyn trailblazer Shirley Chisholm.

And from all of us at Prospect Park Alliance, thank you for all that you do for your park and your community.
