Park Pitch In Events

Join us on select weekends throughout the season to celebrate the park and our environment!  Volunteers will tackle a range of projects from tree care to removing invasive plants and weeds, picking up trash and much more!

Programs Include:

World Biodiversity Day (Sunday, May 22)

World Biodiversity Day is a United Nations-sanctioned international day for the promotion of biodiversity issues. In Prospect Park, invasive plant species are a common threat to our urban ecosystem, outcompeting our native flora and impacting local fauna. Join Prospect Park Alliance as we focus our efforts on removing garlic mustard, a common invasive species that impacts park trees. Volunteers will help remove the plant before the seeds can spread further by either digging it out, or cutting off and disposing of seeds. Volunteers may also help with other activities, such as litter removal, path edging, and more. Appropriate for Teens and Adults.

National Trail Day (Saturday, June 4)

Help care for our forest trails on this national day of service in one of the park’s most scenic woodland destinations, Lookout Hill. Prospect Park Alliance volunteers will support trails on Lookout Hill by mulching and widening trails to ensure safe and easy access. Volunteers may also assist with other tasks, such as litter removal, path edging, and more. Appropriate for Groups, Teens and Adults.

Prospect Park Pollinator Day (Sunday, June 19)

Pollinator Week is an annual event celebrated internationally in support of pollinator health. Join Prospect Park Alliance as we care for one of Prospect Park’s most important pollinator habitats, the Butterfly Meadow on Lookout Hill. Volunteers will help by sprucing up the surrounding area to keep it accessible and clean. Tasks may include trail mulching, path edging, litter removal, and other general tasks. Appropriate for Teens and Adults.

Lake Appreciation Month (Select Saturdays and Sundays in July)

Help Prospect Park Alliance care for its 60 acre lake during our special clean-up series, Park Pitch In: Lake Appreciation Month. During the month of July, Prospect Park will host clean up projects on select Saturdays and Sundays to show Brooklyn’s only lake some love. Volunteers will be given grabbers, nets, and bags to help fish out trash from along the shoreline of our Lake. Appropriate for supervised youth age 4-13, Teens and Adults
