Youth, Teen and Family Volunteer Opportunities

Prospect Park Alliance offers opportunities for families with youth (4-13) and opportunities for teens (14-17) to lend a hand and explore Brooklyn’s Backyard! Learn more about opportunities to help keep Prospect Park green and vibrant.

Please note that some opportunities have age restrictions and may not be appropriate for all age groups.

Teen Service Series: Green Prospect Park
Select Saturdays + Sundays, 11 am–1 pm
Locations Vary, Free, Registration Required
Prospect Park needs you! Get your hands dirty, make real change, and level up your community service hours — all while spending your summer outside in Brooklyn’s Backyard! Help remove invasive plants, maintain woodland trails and other forest restoration work to help Prospect Park thrive. All tools are provided + no experience is necessary. Earn service hours, make a real impact, and have a blast doing it! Series is offered: September 7, 21, + October 25. Appropriate for teen ages 14+.

Park Pitch In: Green and Go
Saturday, September 20, 10 am–2 pm
Parkside + Ocean Avenue Entrance, Free, Registration Required
Help Prospect Park Alliance keep our park green and vibrant! Explore the park while tackling litter and helping with other greening opportunities. Supplies can be checked out at various locations around the park and include all necessary tools for your volunteer experience.
Appropriate for groups, supervised youth ages 9-13, teens and adults. Locations vary by date.

Park Pitch In: 9/11 National Service Weekend
Saturday, September 6, 10 am–1 pm
Grand Army Plaza, Free, Registration Required
9/11 National Service Weekend, held every September, is devoted to remembrance through charitable service. Join Prospect Park Alliance as we support this effort in a volunteer cleanup day. Volunteers will support the park in removing invasive and unwanted wild plants from the 9/11 Grove. Appropriate for groups, teens and adults.

Park Pitch In: International Coastal Clean Up
Saturday, September 13, 10 am–1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for the annual International Coastal Cleanup, where volunteers will remove debris from beaches and waterways while identifying and documenting the types of debris they find. Appropriate for groups, teens and adults.

Sunday, September 14, 11 am –2 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance to help beautify Brooklyn’s Backyard. Volunteers will be painting containers, clearing pathways, and removing unwanted plants.Appropriate for groups, teens and adults.

Park Pitch In: National Public Lands Day
Saturday, September 27, 11 am–2 pm
Picnic House, Free, Registration Required
National Public Lands Day celebrates the connection between people and green space in their community, inspires environmental stewardship, and encourages use of open space for education, recreation, and health benefits. Join Prospect Park Alliance in a day of stewardship. Tasks may include path edging, weeding, tree bed care, and more! Appropriate for groups, teens and adults.

Park Pitch In: City of Forest Day
Saturday, October 4, 11 am–2 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for a Park Pitch In volunteer event on City of Forest Day a citywide effort to raise awareness and celebrate New York City’s urban forest! Prospect Park Alliance volunteers will plant nearly 400 trees and shrubs as well as perform weeding and tree bed care to restore Prospect Park’s beloved landscape. Appropriate for groups, teens and adults.

Park Pitch In: World Sustainability Day
Sunday, October 26, 11 am – 2 pm
Willink Entrance, Free, Registration Required
Sustainability Day was created to teach people about the importance of caring for the environment and the steps on how to sustain our earth. Join Prospect Park Alliance as we sustain and maintain Prospect Park for future generations. Volunteers will remove unwanted plants to help restore Brooklyn’s last remaining forest. Appropriate for Groups, Teens and Adults.

 

Junior Volunteer Corps
Sunday, November 16, 1–3 pm
Concert Grove, Free, Registration Required
Join Prospect Park Alliance for our fall Junior Volunteer Corps! On select weekends, families and youth groups are invited to rake leaves at various locations around the park. All necessary tools will be provided. Open to families and youth groups.
