Nature Exploration

Sunday, April 26 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Nature Play, 10–11 am
    Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities.

  • Discovery Pack, 10–12 pm
    The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

  • Blooming Naturalists, 12–1 pm
    So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides.

Prospect Park Zoo

Nature Playtime! Zoo

Sunday, April 26 , 10:30 am – 12:30 pm, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance, Prospect Park Zoo and Tinkergarten to explore the Park’s natural areas through creative play the entire family will enjoy. Activities include making nature-inspired art, insect observation, playing with snow, and more. Nature Playtime! activity cards are also available that families can use independently to explore natural areas in Prospect Park. Download these cards on our website, a new card will be posted each month. Nature Playtime! is funded through a grant from the Walt Disney Conservation Fund.

Pop-Up Audubon: Leaf Litter Critters

Sunday, April 26 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2015

A healthy forest has helpers to ensure the circle of life goes on. Through fun games and experiments, uncover the secrets of soil creatures, fungus and decomposition. 

  • Adventure Hike, 12–1 pm
    Alliance naturalists will introduce you to the natural history of Prospect Park and its hidden trails.  Recommended for families with children 5 and older.
  • Nature on the Go!, 1–2 pm
    Join Alliance naturalists on a search under the soil to learn about the secret lives of Leaf Litter Critters. Participants can even take home their very own compost bin.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm
    Did you know that trees help trees? After learning how mulch protects tree roots, spend time spreading wood chips around trees.
  • Family Bird Watching, 3–4 pm
    After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.

Pop-Up Audubon II: Animal Clues

Sunday, April 26 , 11 am – 4 pm, 2015

This spring, the Prospect Park Alliance introduces twice the Pop-Up Audubon fun with a second tent that explores the aquatic habitats of Prospect Park. In April, learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” we are weaving with natural materials.

  • Discovery Pack, 11 am–4 pm
    The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families. In April, play Habitat Bingo, search for birds and design a home for one of the Park's many living things.
  • Lakeside Nature Stroll, 12–1 pm
    Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk through the meandering paths of the Peninsula and search for signs of animal homes.
  • Junior Naturalists, 1–2 pm
    Help Alliance naturalists track migrating birds and invasive plants that impact where animals can make their homes in this citizen science program.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm
    Let’s lend a helping hand to make our park a better place.  Learn how mulch helps trees, spread wood chips or protect the environment by removing damaging litter.
  • Family Bird Watching, 3–4 pm
    After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home.

It's time for spring planting! Join the Alliance at Lefferts Historic House where you can make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant an herb seed to take home.

Weekend Volunteer Corps

Sunday, April 26 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for a day of fun as we gear up for spring cleaning! Help the environment in your community. Typical tasks include sprucing up gardens, painting fences and benches, weeding, spreading mulch, sweeping and clearing pathways, and removing trash. Please pre-register online.

Lakeside Clean Up

Sunday, April 26 , 11 am – 1 pm, 2015

Help WILD for Prospect Park clear the banks of the lake to create a safer home for the wildlife.

Volunteers will meet at the lakeside near Vanderbilt Street and Prospect Park Southwest, across from the barbecue area, before beginning the clean up. Please RSVP by emailing  info@wildforprospectpark.com.

Food Truck Rally

The Prospect Park Alliance and Dispatch NY present a sampling of cuisines from around the world from New York's best food trucks.

Trucks in attendance will include DUB Pies, Kelvin Natural Slush Co, Carpe Donut NYC, Toum, Kimchi Taco Truck, Neapolitan Express, Coolhaus, The Taïm Mobile, Snowday, Red Hook Lobster Pound, Brooklyn Organic Coffee & Tea Truck, Papaya King, Nuchas II, Milk Truck, Phil's Steaks, Ponti Roissi, Gorilla Cheese NYC, Andy's Italian Ices, and Carl's Steaks. Please note that the trucks will vary every weekend.
