Nature Exploration

Saturday, July 4 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for expanded Audubon programs every Saturday and Sunday from April through December, and also enjoy twice the Pop-Up Audubon fun, with two tents focused on the Park's woodland and aquatic habitats as well as new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

  • Nature Play, 10–11 am
    Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities.
  • Discovery Pack, 10–12 pm
    The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalists, 12–1 pm
    So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides.
  • Introduction to Bird Watching, 12–1 pm: Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join the Prospect Park Alliance to learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Led by the Brooklyn Bird Club.

Join the Prospect Park Alliance on Independence Day for family-friendly activities at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, Lefferts Historic House and the Carousel.

Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate and get inspired with the beauty of nature through outdoor play-based activities. 

Fishing Clinics, 1-2 pm & 3-4 pm
Peninsula, Free

This popular summer program offers kids 15 & under the opportunity to fish.  Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety and will even get to collect their own bait. First come, first serve.

Independence Day, 2–5 pm
Lefferts Historic House, $3 suggested donation
Celebrate America's birthday and one of the greatest documents ever written. Look extra patriotic as you make yourself a plumed hat to wear while signing your own "John Hancock" on a reproduction of the Declaration of Independence.

Carousel Rides, 12–5 pm
Children’s Corner, $2 per ride, $9 for a book of 5 tickets, free with Alliance Family Plus membership

Celebrate with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Alliance at the $125 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!

Pop-Up Audubon: Macy’s Fishing Clinics

Saturday, July 4 , 12 pm – 6 pm, 2015

Join the Alliance to explore aquatic and avian ecology in Prospect Park.

  • Macy’s Fishing Clinics, 1-2 pm & 3-4 pm: This popular summer program offers kids 15 & under the opportunity to fish.  Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety and will even get to collect their own bait. First come, first serve.
  • Family Bird Watching, 4:30–5:30 pm: Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds?  After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds!
