Nature Exploration

Sunday, August 9 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2015

Join the Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Nature Play, 10–11 am
    Join Alliance naturalists and learn to appreciate the beauty of nature and develop self-reliance, creativity and problem-solving skills through different outdoor play-based activities.

  • Discovery Pack, 10–12 pm
    The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

  • Blooming Naturalists, 12–1 pm
    So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides.

Pop-Up Audubon: Macy’s Fishing Clinics

Sunday, August 9 , 12 pm – 6 pm, 2015

Join the Alliance to explore aquatic and avian ecology in Prospect Park.

  • Macy’s Fishing Clinics, 1 pm & 3 pm: This popular summer program offers kids 15 & under the opportunity to fish.  Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety and will even get to collect their own bait. First come, first serve.
  • Family Bird Watching, 4:30 pm: Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds?  After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds!

Pop-Up Audubon II: Fishing Fun

Lefferts Historic House

Historic Games

Sunday, August 9 , 2 pm – 5 pm, 2015

Come relax in the shade of the Lefferts yard and learn how to play Nine Man Morris, a historic board game. Afterwards you can make your own board to take home with you. You can also challenge a friend to a game of checkers or try some historic hoop games and stilt walking.

Located across from the southeast corner of Prospect Park, at Parkside and Ocean Aves, this Sunday market will feature six producers selling fresh vegetables, fruits, cheese, milk, herbs, eggs, honey, meats, yarn, baked goods and more. Family Bird Watching

Looking for a fun way to spend time with your family outdoors? Join the Prospect Park Alliance for its monthly family bird watching tours. After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 10 am.

NYC Safe Disposal

Sunday, August 9 , 10 am – 4 pm, 2015

Join the NYC Department of Sanitation for this S.A.F.E. (Solvents, Automotive, Flammable, Electronics) Disposal event for a one-stop method to get rid of harmful household products. This event is rain or shine.

Materials accepted include common household products such as auto fluids, batteries, electronics, strong cleaners, medications, paint and more. Please visit the DSNY website for more information.

Kiddie Science

What is a living thing? Explore this question as we learn about the classification of living things and the adaptations that make animals special. Participate in a scavenger hunt of living things inside Prospect Park.

Kiddie Science is a Brooklyn-based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aimed at presenting science to young children.Targeting young scientists age 2 and up, our programs aim to foster a lifetime love of science.

Bones of an Old Dutch Farmhouse Tour

Sunday, August 9 , 12 pm – 1 pm, 2015

Examine the white oak timbers (the bones) of Lefferts Historic House and the many layers that were added, subtracted and changed over the past 230 years. Climb the staircase for a view of the attic's smokehouse and descend into the cellar for a look at the foundation. For adults and teenagers. Only 10 people per tour.
