Winter on a Flatbush Farm

Sunday, November 26 , 1 pm – 3 pm, 2017

Get ready for winter as they did in the 19th century farming village of Flatbush. Learn how to make a candle, watch a master spinster spin wool thread, and enjoy Dutch treats made at our outdoor hearth from a Lefferts family recipe. St. Nicholas will visit at 3 pm.

Nature Exploration

Sunday, November 26 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2017

Join Prospect Park Alliance for fun nature activities each weekend, and also participate in our 150th anniversary species count for special prizes.

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalist, 10 am: So you think you are a naturalist? Investigate the natural world by learning how to use tools and guides used by biologist. This activity leads you through activities to discover the Audubon Center and Prospect Park.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 11 am: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This is activity is led by Alliance staff and all materials are provided.

Nestled inside Prospect Park's tree-shaded southwest corner, this much-loved market, occuring every Sunday and Wednesday, is where South Slope and Windsor Terrace residents stock up on locally grown staples. The offerings range from a selection of vegetables, fruits, baked goods, plants, and flowers, to fresh-caught fish and organic baked goods. Quilt Show: A Trip Around the World

Join Prospect Park Alliance to see the wonderful work of The Brooklyn Quilters' Guild while their quilt exhibit is on display at the Lefferts Historic House. This year’s exhibit is themed “A Trip Around the World”. These original creations range from traditional to contemporary to mixed media fiber art. While you are here try your hand at making your own paper quilt collage or add to our community paper patchwork quilt.

This event is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Quilters Guild

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

On view daily through February 10, 2019.

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.

Art in the Parks: Fitzhugh Karol

All Day, Sunday, November 26, 2017

Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks presents a public sculpture exhibition by artist Fitzhugh Karol through the NYC Parks Art in the Parks program. Two sculptures of colorful intersecting steel shapes reference familiar silhouettes of stairs and hillsides. Their abstract and playful shapes invite interaction and are a reminder of man’s imprint on the landscape. The two sculptures, titled “Searches” and “Reaches,” will be on display through Fall 2018.

About the Artist:
Fitzhugh Baylies Karol is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and designer interested in the integration of sculpture within landscape and architecture. Fitzhugh’s large outdoor sculptures and public works were be exhibited in three New York City parks in 2017. He has previously exhibited at the Bartow-Pell Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, The LongHouse Reserve, Rochester Contemporary Arts Center, and The Aidron Duckworth Museum.
