Nature Exploration

Saturday, April 1 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for fun nature activities each weekend, and also participate in our 150th anniversary species count for special prizes.

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalist, 10 am: So you think you are a naturalist? Investigate the natural world by learning how to use tools and guides used by biologist. This activity leads you through activities to discover the Audubon Center and Prospect Park.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 11 am: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This is activity is led by Alliance staff and all materials are provided.

Weekend Volunteer Corps

Saturday, April 1 , 10 am – 1 pm

Celebrate the Park’s 150th by giving back! Join Prospect Park Alliance to help spruce up gardens; paint fences & benches; weed; spread mulch; clean and maintain pathways. We can accommodate any group ranging from just a few people to up to 40 volunteers. Advance registration required.

The Prospect Park Alliance challenges you to commit to help Prospect Park stay clean and green for another 150 years! Volunteer twice in April to receive a special Alliance goodie bag.

Opening Day Parade + Fair

Join the Prospect Park Alliance to officially kick off the 150th Anniversary and start of spring!

  • Opening Day Parade, 10–11 am
    Prospect Park Bandshell
    Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Prospect Park Baseball Association for this beloved community event. Over 1,000 youth league players will parade down 7th Avenue in Park Slope, led by local marching bands and civic leaders, to the Long Meadow Ball Fields, where ceremonial first pitches will be thrown to start the season.
  • Brooklyn Atlantics Exhibition Game
    Canceled
    Due to inclement weather, the exhibition game has been canceled, but the Brooklyn Atlantics, a historic baseball club, will participate in the Opening Weekend Fair with baseball memorabilia and to pose for photos.
  • Prospect Park Alliance Opening Day Fair, 11 am–3 pm
    Bartel-Pritchard Entrance
    After the Opening Day Parade, join the Alliance and community partners for family-friendly fun and refreshments.

LeFrak Center at Lakeside

Ice Skating Fun

Saturday, April 1 , 10 am – 9 pm

In celebration of the 150th Anniversary, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside has extended the ice skating season through Opening Weekend, April 1 + 2! Enjoy a last skate of the season, and receive a complimentary pass to return this spring for roller skating fun.

Prospect Park Alliance Members can skate for free all weekend long!

Prospect Park History Running Tour

Saturday, April 1 , 11 am – 12 pm

Celebrate the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park with a New York Road Runners Running History Tour! Starting from the historic Grand Army Plaza, you’ll be led by one of NYRR's Group Training coaches past several historical spots throughout Prospect Park. Experience the Park’s history at a comfortable pace (10 minute mile) that allows for plenty of photo ops and questions along the way. Please note: This is not a training run; we will be making frequent stops along the tour.

Opening Weekend at the Zoo!

Saturday, April 1 , 11 am – 4 pm

Prospect Park Zoo is celebrating the Park’s 150th with free admission for children and special Park-centric fun!

  • Discovery Center Fun: this special area for young children will feature books themed with Park-centric reading material.  
  • Nature Play on Discovery Trail: Families will think about animals and the homes they need and construct a variety of habitats!
  • Conservation Station in the Hall of Animals: Zoo interpreters will give visitors the tools they need to recognize the signs of spring in and out of the Park and foster an appreciation for wildlife everywhere.

It's time for spring planting! Join Prospect Park Alliance to help plant our crop of flax and make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant vegetable seeds to take home. As part of the Park's 150th Anniversary Celebration, the 150th visitor will win a special prize!

Art in the Parks: Carole Eisner

All Day

In partnership with NYC Parks' Art in the Parks project, the Prospect Park Alliance presents a public exhibition of sculpture by Carole Eisner. Four sculptures, created from I-beams twisted into lyrical forms will be on display at Grand Army Plaza, Bartel Pritchard Square, Litchfield Villa and the Peninsula through Spring 2017.
