Earth Day Celebration

Saturday, April 22 , 2 pm – 4 pm

Join the Prospect Park Alliance at the Audubon Center for its annual Earth Day celebration.

RSVP to let us know you are coming! 

  • Fishing Lessons, 12–3 pm: Enjoy this fun introduction to catch-and-release fishing. Department of Environmental Conservation’s Bureau of Fisheries (DEC) and Alliance naturalists will teach participants how to tie a fishing knot, attach bait and cast a line to a try and hook a fish!
  • Blooming Naturalist, 12–3 pm: So you think you are a Naturalist? Find out at the Audubon Center by learning how to identify birds and use binoculars and field guides. Participants can even create their own Official Blooming Naturalist button.
  • Orienteering, 12-3 pm: Join the Urban Park Rangers as participants will use maps to locate hidden markers in the park. The program's goal is not only to teach navigational skills, but also to inspire a sense of adventure and self-awareness in unfamiliar terrain.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 12-3 pm: Join the Brooklyn Fishing Club and Audubon staff as they lead a lakeside clean-up. All materials will be provided and let’s try to beat our amount of trash from last year!

Nature Exploration

Saturday, April 22 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for fun nature activities to welcome the start of spring, and also participate in our 150th anniversary species count for special prizes.

Please note: on April 22nd, Nature Exploration will be replaced by special Earth Day programming. 

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Blooming Naturalist, 10 am: So you think you are a naturalist? Investigate the natural world by learning how to use tools and guides used by biologist. This activity leads you through activities to discover the Audubon Center and Prospect Park.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 11 am: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This is activity is led by Alliance staff and all materials are provided.

It's time for spring planting! Join Prospect Park Alliance to help plant our crop of flax and make a small pot out of newspaper, fill it with soil and plant vegetable seeds to take home. As part of the Park's 150th Anniversary Celebration, the 150th visitor will win a special prize!

Join us for a scenic tour of Prospect Park and test your early season fitness with this race in Prospect Park! This race benefits CAMBA, a non-profit agency that provides services that connects New Yorkers with opportunities to enhance their quality of life. CAMBA benefits a diverse cross section of New Yorkers, from young mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways.

Art in the Parks: Carole Eisner

All Day

In partnership with NYC Parks' Art in the Parks project, the Prospect Park Alliance presents a public exhibition of sculpture by Carole Eisner. Four sculptures, created from I-beams twisted into lyrical forms will be on display at Grand Army Plaza, Bartel Pritchard Square, Litchfield Villa and the Peninsula through Spring 2017.
