Open House New York: LeFrak Center at Lakeside

Saturday, October 13 , 1:30 pm – 3 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance at Open House New York Weekend, with a behind-the-scenes look at the LeFrak Center at Lakeside on September 13 and a

Open House New York Weekend unlocks the doors of New York’s most iconic areas, offering an extraordinary opportunity to experience the city. This year, Prospect Park Alliance is offering two tours: on Saturday, September 13, enjoy a tour of the LeFrak Center at Lakeside led by Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, and on Sunday, September 14, enjoy a Prospect Park Walking Tour with our partners Turnstile Tours

The complex offers winter ice skating, summer roller skating, boating, biking and a warm weather water play area. Spanning more than twenty-six acres, the construction of the project included a significant parkland restoration to Prospect Park designers Olmsted and Vaux’s original vision. In addition to the construction of a new recreational facility in place of a former asphalt parking area, the project improved park access and restored key elements of Prospect Park's original design: Baier Music Island and the White Levy Esplanade.  Since its opening, the LeFrak Center at Lakeside has brought new energy to a once underutilized section of the park for all in Brooklyn and New York City to enjoy.

Reservations open September 28 on the Open House New York website.

Forest Bathing in Prospect Park

Saturday, October 13 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2018

Join the Natural Areas Conservancy in partnership with Prospect Park Alliance for a therapeutic walk through Brooklyn’s Backyard.

About Forest Bathing

Forest bathing, sometimes called forest therapy or nature therapy, is based on the Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku. Forest bathing encourages connecting with nature. It is a low-intensity activity, focused on gently engaging mind, spirit, and body with the natural environment. The practice has well-documented benefits on health and stress relief.

About this Event

Our expert guide will be Bibi Calderaro, who is a Brooklyn-based artist, educator, and certified forest bathing guide. Her approach is to view forest bathing as a way to improve the health of both people and nature.

This event is free and will take place rain or shine, but space is very limited and registration is required. If you would like to attend, we ask that you please commit to the entire 2+ hour event.
