Arbor Day

Friday, April 27 , 12 pm – 4 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance this Arbor day for games, crafts and an exhibit on Brooklyn's last remaining forest, Prospect Park! RSVP to let us know you are coming.

  • Discovery Pack, 12–3 pm The Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Bird Nerd Game Hour, 1 –2 pm Learn about birds and nature in this fun, mildly competitive hour of puzzles, Bingo, card games, and more!
  • Nature on the Go, ID a Tree, 2–3 pm Take an in-depth look at the largest organism within Prospect Park (trees) and discover the important role forests play in providing different habitats for the Park’s wildlife. This program leaves promptly at 2 pm.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 3–4 pm Did you know that trees help trees? After learning how mulch protects tree roots, spend time spreading wood chips around trees. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

Community Arbor Day Tree Planting

Friday, April 27 , 1 pm – 2 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance for our annual Community Arbor Day Tree Planting! Your gift is an ideal way to give back to your community while celebrating a loved one. All donors and their honorees are invited to participate in the tree planting on Arbor Day and receive a special certificate. Alliance arborists choose the species and location of the tree.

Donate by April 15 to be a part of this special event.

Nature Exploration

Friday, April 27 , 12 pm – 4 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance for free nature education programs every Thursday and Friday afternoon at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Discovery Pack, 12–3 pm: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.

  • Animal Encounter, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.
  • Nature on the Go!, 3–4 pm: An Alliance Naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

Art in the Parks: Fitzhugh Karol

All Day, Friday, April 27, 2018

Prospect Park Alliance and NYC Parks presents a public sculpture exhibition by artist Fitzhugh Karol through the NYC Parks Art in the Parks program. Two sculptures of colorful intersecting steel shapes reference familiar silhouettes of stairs and hillsides. Their abstract and playful shapes invite interaction and are a reminder of man’s imprint on the landscape. The two sculptures, titled “Searches” and “Reaches,” will be on display through Fall 2018.

About the Artist:
Fitzhugh Baylies Karol is a Brooklyn-based sculptor and designer interested in the integration of sculpture within landscape and architecture. Fitzhugh’s large outdoor sculptures and public works were be exhibited in three New York City parks in 2017. He has previously exhibited at the Bartow-Pell Museum, Socrates Sculpture Park, The LongHouse Reserve, Rochester Contemporary Arts Center, and The Aidron Duckworth Museum.

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
