Faces and Stories of Prospect Park: Opening Reception

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Virginia L. S. Freire Photography at the Lefferts Historic House for the opening reception of Faces and Stories of Prospect Park. A photo testament to the individuals, couples, families, friends, and even canines, that make up the vibrant landscape of Prospect Park.

Virginia L. S. Freire is a fine art portrait artist and visual storyteller. Her boutique portrait studio specializes in creating artful portraits telling extraordinary stories that will endure over generations. She is a Brooklyn native with a home-based studio in Prospect Heights where she lives with her husband and two children in the brownstone where she grew up just blocks from Prospect Park.

Volunteer with Prospect Park Alliance’s Thursday Volunteer Corps! This dedicated team of volunteers perform a variety of different projects throughout the park. The group meets at a different location every week helping in a variety of landscape and horticultural projects. Regardless of physical ability, there's something for everyone to do.

  • Discovery Pack, 12–3 pm: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Bird Nerd Game Hour, 1–2 pm: Learn about birds and nature in this fun, mildly competitive hour of puzzles, Bingo, card games, and more!
  • Animal Encounter, 2–3 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 2 pm.
  • Nature on the Go!, 3–4 pm: An Alliance Naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

  • Prospect Park Audubon Center, 12–4 pm, Free
    Join Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

    Get out and get moving in the Lefferts yard! The whole family can participate in potato sack races, spoon races, stilts and other old fashioned games.

  • Carousel Rides, 12–5 pm
    Children’s Corner, $2.50 per ride, $11.50 for a book of 5 tickets, free with Alliance Family Supporter membership

    Celebrate the start of spring with a first ride of the year on the Park’s beloved 1912 carousel. Join the Alliance at the $150 level and your family (up to 4 people) will receive unlimited rides on the Carousel for a full year!

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
