Members Morning at Children’s Corner

Saturday, August 25 , 9 am – 12 pm, 2018

Prospect Park Alliance invites members at the $150 Family Supporter level and above to join us for a morning of fun family activities. Enjoy a private hour at the Prospect Park Zoo with complimentary admission, including a live sea lion training session. The Discovery Center will also be open for children to explore their imagination. Then, head over to the Lefferts Historic House and the Carousel, which will be open early for members. Enjoy old-fashioned toys and games popular with Brooklyn children in the 19th century and complimentary rides on the Carousel.

Saturday Volunteer Corps

Saturday, August 25 , 10 am – 2 pm, 2018

The Prospect Park Alliance Saturday Volunteer Corps is a great way to explore Prospect Park and give back to your community!  Every Saturday from April–September, volunteers will take on a different section of the Park and engage in various tasks such as tree care, perimeter maintenance, litter patrol, bench painting, and more!

Nature Exploration

Saturday, August 25 , 10 am – 1 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

  • Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our Discovery Packs, ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
  • Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am.
  • Nature’s Helpers, 12 pm–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided.  This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Faces and Stories of Prospect Park

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Virginia L. S. Freire Photography at the Lefferts Historic House for Faces and Stories of Prospect Park. A photo testament to the individuals, couples, families, friends, and even canines, that make up the vibrant landscape of Prospect Park.

Virginia L. S. Freire is a fine art portrait artist and visual storyteller. Her boutique portrait studio specializes in creating artful portraits telling extraordinary stories that will endure over generations. She is a Brooklyn native with a home-based studio in Prospect Heights where she lives with her husband and two children in the brownstone where she grew up just blocks from Prospect Park.

Imagination Playground

Ezra Jack Keats Story Hour

Saturday, August 25 , 2 pm – 3 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday and Sunday in August at the Imagination Playground for storytelling adventures brought to life by Tammy Hall. Discover fun and exciting tales as you gather around Peter and Willie, the statue of two beloved Keats characters. Sponsored by the Ezra Jack Keats Foundation.

Calypso at the Zoo

Saturday, August 25 , 10 am – 5 pm, 2018

Visit the Prospect Park Zoo every weekend in August for a zoo-themed West Indian carnival with steelpan and calypso music, carnival-inspired crafts, and of course, Caribbean culture. Learn about the unique wildlife of the Caribbean islands and about conservation work in the Caribbean by the Wildlife Conservation Society.

Pop-Up Audubon I: Macy's Fishing Clinics

Saturday, August 25 , 12 pm – 5 pm, 2018

Join Prospect Park Alliance educators in these fun, free fishing clinics! Participants learn about aquatic ecology, fishing safety and will even get to collect their own bait. Pop-Up Audubon is made possible through the generous support of Con Edison and the Brooke Astor Fund for New York City.

  • Macy's Family Fishing Clinics, 1 pm + 3 pm:  Enjoy catch-and-release fishing, while  learning about local fish species, fishing safety and  how to use the tackle. Suited for families with children under 8. This hour long program starts promptly at 1 pm and then again at 3 pm; late participants cannot be accommodated. Pre-registration is recommended at Eventbrite.com. Limited walk-in spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

  • Family Birdwatching, 4 pm–5 pm: Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds? After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Prospect Park Alliance naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds! This program leaves promptly at 4 pm.

Pop-Up Audubon II: Gone Fishin' Clinics

Enjoy the summer with Prospect Park Alliance’s fin and feather programs around the park! Pop-Up Audubon is made possible through the generous support of Con Edison and the Brooke Astor Fund for New York City.

  • Gone Fishin' Clinics, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm:  Have you ever wanted to try your hand at fishing? Join Prospect Park Alliance to catch-and-release fish right here in Prospect Park!  Participants will learn about local fish species, responsible fishing practices, and instruction on how to use our spin-casting rods. Instruction, tackle, and bait will be provided. Pop-Up II is suited for individuals over 8. This hour long program starts promptly at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, late participants cannot be accommodated.

The Means of a Ready Escape: Brooklyn’s Prospect Park

In celebration of the 150th anniversary of Prospect Park, Brooklyn Historical Society and Prospect Park Alliance present an exhibition that celebrates the founding vision of the Park, traces its social and historical trajectories, and examines the important role that Prospect Park has played as “Brooklyn’s Backyard” for 150 years. 

The Brooklyn Historical Society is closed on major holidays.
