First, is your child ready to join the fold? Sign up for our Kids Learn to Ride led by Bike New York: prospectpark.org/learn-to-ride-kids. (Note: registration must take place via this web link; please register with your child's name and birthdate.)

Has your child outgrown their bicycle? Take part in our Kids Bike Swap and Helmet Fitting. Come early to swap your child's too-small bike for a model that fits. We'll also be providing free helmets while supplies last!

Did you know a majority of New York City cyclists are men? Join Citi Bike and Bike New York's Gear Femmes to learn more about mentoring and programs for women bikers as we work to #CloseTheFenderGap, and sign up for a Bike Path ride class especially for women: prospectpark.org/gear-femmes. (Note: registration must take place via this weblink.)

New York City is also filled with a number of organizations that support riders of all abilities. Join Citi Bike for a demonstration of hand-cycles for adults and InTandem for a demonstration of tandem cycling for children and adults with special needs: people with disabilities can be introduced to tandem cycling and InTandem services; people new to cycling can get a feel for riding without the fear of falling by riding as a stoker (person on back); experienced cyclists can learn how to ride as captains (person on front).

Stop by the event to learn more about bike safety in the park, and sign up for a free one-month trial of Citi Bike, as well as bike maps and other fun giveaways at the Citi Bike station. Join Prospect Park Alliance for a raffle of a Micro Kickboard Balance Bike for the pre-riders in your life, and other fun prizes to better experience the park.

Prospect Park Tour: OHNY Weekend

Sunday, October 20 , 10 am – 11 am, 2019
2019-10-20T00:00:00-04:00
11225, NY, Brooklyn

Join Prospect Park Alliance and Turnstile Tours for a special park tour in celebration of Open House New York. Prospect Park is the masterwork of famed landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted and his partner Calvert Vaux. The saying goes that their most famous creation, Central Park, was a mere practice run, and Prospect Park the true masterpiece. At the heart of their design is the 90-acre Long Meadow, the 150-acre woodland Ravine, and a watercourse that featured waterfalls, springs and a 60- acre Lake. In the mid-20th century the park suffered severe decline, and since the mid-1980s, the non-profit Prospect Park Alliance has focused on restoring the park and now plays a significant role in its day-to-day upkeep. Enjoy a tour of the park's natural areas as well as some of its historic landmarks, including the 1869 Wellhouse, the last remaining building in the park designed by Calvert Vaux, which originally housed the mechanical equipment that pumped water into the watercourse. The Alliance recently transformed the Wellhouse into the city's first composting restroom in a public park.

Tickets will be available for reservation on October 1.

Visit the Open House New York website for further information and to RSVP.
