Before photography, silhouette was one of the most popular portraiture techniques in 18th and 19th century America. Join the Prospect Park Alliance at Lefferts Historic House this October to learn about this tradition and create and embellish miniature personal silhouette portraits.

Nature Exploration

Saturday, October 5 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday through November for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Come explore nature on your own with our Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools, perfect for families and kids to interact with the park in a whole new way!
Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am. Animal Encounter is presented in partnership with Macy's.
Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Intro to Birdwatching

Saturday, October 5 , 12 pm – 1 pm

Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club every Saturday through November to take a tour and learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 12 pm from outside the Audubon Center.

Annual Doubles Tournament

Get competitive with Prospect Park Alliance's Annual Doubles Tournament! This tournament will feature Men's Doubles, Women's Doubles, Mixed Doubles and Family Doubles.

It's My Park! Day

Saturday, October 5 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance and REI to care for your park on It’s My Park! Day, where volunteers will participate in a citywide effort to care for our green spaces with brooms, shovels, rakes and trash grabbers. In Prospect Park, we'll be focusing our efforts on Lookout Hill with a cleanup, path maintenance and woodland restoration work. Groups please complete our Group Inquiry Form.

Boo at the Zoo

Prospect Park Zoo is going batty every weekend in October with Halloween-themed games and crafts. Learn about bats around the world and right here in New York where Prospect Park Zoo is participating in a project to understand the ecology of urban bats in our own backyard – Prospect Park.

Campfire Conversation for Kids

Join Prospect Park Alliance at Lefferts Historic House for a Campfire Conversation for kids. Learn fire safety tips and help us find wood to make our campfire. Once the fire is roaring, enjoy smores and other treats while veteran storyteller Tammy Hall weaves campfire tales and leads children in a conversation about bravery.
