Nature Exploration

Saturday, May 11 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday through June for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Come explore nature on your own with our Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools, perfect for families and kids to interact with the park in a whole new way!
Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am.
Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Intro to Birdwatching

Saturday, May 11 , 12 pm – 1 pm

Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club every Saturday through June to take a tour and learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 12 pm from outside the Audubon Center.

Wild and Wooly Festival

Saturday, May 11 , 10 am – 4 pm

It’s a wild and wooly celebration every weekend at Prospect Park Zoo! Learn how goat herders in Mongolia are actually saving local wildlife in the cashmere industry. Enjoy special talks about the Zoo's barnyard animals and crafts every weekend, and on one weekend only, witness the fascinating shearing of the sheep by a professional shearer.

Wonderful Warblers: Pop-up Audubon I

Saturday, May 11 , 11 am – 4 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday in May to discover why Prospect Park is an important place for many species of birds. Through fun games, experiments and citizen science projects, learn why warblers are so wonderful. Pop-Up Audubon I is best for ages 8 and under. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Discovery Pack, 11 am–4 pm: Prospect Park Alliance invites you to get inspired by nature with our new Discovery Packs, a ready-to-go kits filled with nature activities for families.
Adventure Hike, 12–1 pm: Alliance naturalists will introduce you to the natural history of Prospect Park and the park's hidden trails. Recommended for families with children 5 and older. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.
Nature on the Go!, 1–2 pm: Did you know 25 types of warblers stop at Prospect Park in May? Learn how to identify these cute and colorful birds on a bird walk. This program leaves promptly at 1 pm.
Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by picking up litter, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 2 pm.
Family Birdwatching, 3–4 pm: After learning how to use binoculars, join our naturalists to identify some of the 250 species of birds that call Prospect Park home. This program leaves promptly at 3 pm.

Pop-Up Audubon II: Animal Clues

Saturday, May 11 , 11 am – 4 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday in May for Pop Up Audubon II: Animal Clues! Learn about birds and other animals that make their home near water, and add to the “nest” we are weaving with natural materials. Pop-Up Audubon II is best for ages 8 and over. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Lakeside Nature Stroll, 12–1 pm: Join Alliance naturalists for a guided nature walk through the meandering paths of the Peninsula and search for signs of animal homes. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.
Junior Naturalists, 1–2 pm: Help Alliance naturalists track migrating birds and invasive plants that impact where animals can make their homes in this citizen science program. This program starts promptly at 1 pm.
Nature’s Helpers, 2–3 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 2 pm.

Lefferts Historic House

Harvesting Color

Saturday, May 11 , 2 pm – 4 pm

Every weekend in May, join Prospect Park Alliance at the Lefferts Historic House on an exploration of color from the natural world.  Learn how to use natural ingredients such as flowers, berries and food scraps to naturally dye fabrics.  Participants are welcome to bring one natural fiber item (cotton, linen, canvas, or silk) to dye.  No previous dyeing experience necessary! All ages welcome!  Participation is limited and is on a first come first serve basis

Mother’s Day Breakfast

Saturday, May 11 , 9 am – 10:30 am

Treat mom to something special this year - a celebration of animal moms at the zoo! Participants will meet in the zoo before it opens, enjoy a light breakfast, meet an animal close up, and help prepare special treats for the some of our animal moms.

International Migratory Bird Day

Saturday, May 11 , 10 am – 1 pm

Help Prospect Park Alliance celebrate the importance of stop-over locations like Prospect Park to migratory birds. More than 250 species have been recorded in the park, and it is not uncommon to see 100 or more species in one spring day.

Blooming Naturalists, 10 am–12 pm: Learn about native plants and their importance to migratory birds.
Nature on the Go!, 11 am–12 pm: An Alliance Naturalist will lead children and families to areas near the Audubon Center, where you can learn about the nature that is all around us. This program leaves promptly at 11am.
Nature's Helpers, 12–1 pm: Learn how to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore, spreading mulch or removing invasive species. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Get involved in your community! Join Prospect Park Alliance to spruce up gardens, paint fences + benches, weed, spread mulch, and clean and maintain pathways.
