Nature Exploration

Saturday, July 6 , 10 am – 1 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance every Saturday + Sunday through June for nature education programs at the Prospect Park Audubon Center, the first urban Audubon Center in the nation.

Discovery Pack, 10 am–12 pm: Come explore nature on your own with our Discovery Packs, a backpack filled with nature activities and exploration tools, perfect for families and kids to interact with the park in a whole new way!
Animal Encounter, 11 am–12 pm: Join Alliance Naturalists in learning more about the animals in the Audubon Center’s collection. This program starts promptly at 11 am.
Nature’s Helpers, 12–1 pm: Help do your part to keep Prospect Park healthy by cleaning up the lakeshore. In this citizen science activity Audubon staff will guide groups to remove litter and record the findings. Fun for all ages and all materials are provided. This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Intro to Birdwatching

Saturday, July 6 , 12 pm – 1 pm

Look! Up in the sky, it’s a bird! But what kind of bird is it? Join Prospect Park Alliance and the Brooklyn Bird Club every Saturday through June to take a tour and learn about the magnificent array of birds that call Prospect Park home. Please note this tour leaves promptly at 12 pm from outside the Audubon Center.

Saturday Volunteer Corps

Saturday, July 6 , 10 am – 2 pm

Prospect Park Alliance's Saturday Volunteer Corps is a great way to explore Prospect Park and give back to your community! Every Saturday starting in May, join Prospect Park Alliance to help care for Brooklyn's Backyard. Volunteers will help with tree care, maintaining the park's perimeter, litter patrol, bench painting and more!

We Are Brooklyn: Immigrant Voices

Saturday, July 6 , 12 pm – 5 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance to view this multimedia exhibition based on immigrant oral histories from The Brooklyn College Listening Project. Brooklyn College students, as part of the Brooklyn College Listening Project interviewed family, friends, neighbors and strangers. They sat with them in kitchens, in living rooms, in libraries, recording their stories. This exhibition is drawn from these oral histories, on view at Lefferts Historic House through Labor Day.

Can You Run The Zoo?

Do you have what it takes to work at the Zoo? Visit the Zoo every weekend in July to find out what it takes to care for hundreds of animals. National Zoo Keeper Week is in July so it’s a perfect opportunity to meet some of the Zoo’s keepers and learn about their job. Enjoy zookeeper inspired games and keeper chats. Volunteer and education program information will highlight how you too can join the zoo! Check out our special gallery stories on WCS Women In Science!

Pop-Up Audubon II: Fishing Clinics + Birdwatching

Saturday, July 6 , 12 pm – 5 pm

Join Prospect Park Alliance for this popular summer program where families can go fishing right here in Brooklyn's Backyard. Learn about local fish species, fishing safety and instruction on how to use the tackle. Instruction, tackle, and bait will be provided. Presented in partnership with Con Edison.

Family Birdwatching, 12-1 pm
Did you know that as an Important Bird Area, Prospect Park supports an exceptional diversity of migrating birds and is an essential stopover for about 250 species of birds?  After learning how to use binoculars, participants of all ages can join Alliance Naturalists on a walk to learn how to identify these birds! This program leaves promptly at 12 pm.

Prospect Park Audubon Center's Fishing Clinics, 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm
This clinic is suited for families with children 8 years and older, and we will use spin casting rods. This hour-long program starts promptly at 1:30 pm and 3:30 pm, late participants cannot be accommodated. Limited walk-up spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Children under 8 are recommended to check out our Pop-Up Audubon I programming!

Pop-Up Audubon I: Fishing Clinics + Birdwatching

Family Fishing Clinics, 1 pm + 3 pm
Join Prospect Park Alliance for this popular summer tradition where families can go fishing right here in Brooklyn's Backyard.
